What is Diane Lewis's job when Ron Swanson meets her?

The story behind the answer

When Ron Swanson meets Diane Lewis, she is a middle school vice principal.

Ron first encounters Diane in the Season 5 episode “How a Bill Becomes a Law.” He goes to her home after learning that the city has ignored her complaints about a pothole. True to his aggressively do-it-yourself attitude, Ron decides to repair it himself rather than wait for the Department of Public Works.

Diane is a single mother raising two daughters, Ivy and Zoe, and her school-administrator job helps explain her firm, no-nonsense manner. Ron is initially uncomfortable around the girls, especially when they dress him and Andy in princess costumes and hold a tea party. Nevertheless, Diane recognizes Ron’s unexpected patience and reliability.

Diane later becomes Ron’s partner and wife. Unlike Ron’s previous marriages, this relationship is not connected to either of his ex-wives named Tammy. She is also pregnant with Ron’s child during the sixth-season premiere, changing his famously private life in a major way.
