What is Captain Hook’s first name in Peter Pan?

Captain Hook’s first name in Peter Pan is James.

The name appears most clearly in J. M. Barrie’s 1904 stage play Peter Pan and the 1911 novel Peter and Wendy. Barrie usually calls him Captain Hook, but the character’s full name is Captain James Hook.

Hook is the pirate captain and Peter Pan’s principal enemy. His defining feature is the iron hook replacing one hand, which Peter cut off during a fight and fed to a crocodile. The crocodile then continued to pursue Hook.

Some adaptations change or expand Hook’s background, but James remains the standard first name in the main Peter Pan tradition. Disney’s 1953 animated film also uses the name James Hook in its associated character materials.
