What is the name of the London theater where Peter Pan premiered in 1904?

The story behind the answer

Peter Pan premiered at London’s Duke of York’s Theatre in 1904.

J. M. Barrie’s play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up opened at the Duke of York’s Theatre on 27 December 1904. The production established the stage version of Peter as a flying boy who leads Wendy and her brothers into Neverland and battles Captain Hook.

The theater is a historic West End venue in St Martin’s Lane. It opened in 1892 and later became known simply as the Duke of York’s Theatre. Its association with Peter Pan is sometimes blurred with the play’s later productions, Broadway adaptations, and the 1904 premiere date itself.

The premiere was a major theatrical event because stage technology had to suggest flight, fairy magic, pirates, and a fantastical island. Nina Boucicault originally played Peter, a role traditionally performed by an actress in early stage productions. The play became the foundation for later novels, films, and musicals.
