Lane Kim plays drums in Hep Alien on Gilmore Girls.
Drumming is central to Lane's identity and her ambitions. She practices privately, searches for musicians, and eventually joins Hep Alien, the band formed with her friends in Stars Hollow. Music allows Lane to express a side of herself that she hides from her strict mother, Mrs. Kim.
Lane's musical taste also drives several early storylines. She keeps a hidden collection of rock records and seeks opportunities to hear live music, even when her mother disapproves. Her role behind the drum kit gives her a clear place in the band rather than making music only a hobby.
The instrument is sometimes confused with guitar because Hep Alien's other members play guitar. Zack Van Gerbig and Brian Fuller handle guitar parts, while Lane is the drummer.
