The Pennsylvania State House was later renamed Independence Hall in the Declaration's America250 story.
The Second Continental Congress met in the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia when it adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The building was subsequently renamed Independence Hall, the name by which it is internationally known today.
Independence Hall is part of Independence National Historical Park and remains one of the United States' best-known historic sites. The Assembly Room is associated with both the Declaration of Independence and the later drafting of the U.S. Constitution.
The building is sometimes confused with Congress Hall, another Philadelphia structure that served as the meeting place of the U.S. Congress from 1790 to 1800. Carpenters' Hall hosted the First Continental Congress in 1774, but it was not the Pennsylvania State House where the Declaration was adopted.
