Yaroslava Mahuchikh cleared 1.97 metres to win the women’s high jump at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
The Ukrainian champion finished ahead of Poland’s Maria Żodzik and Montenegro’s Marija Vuković. Both of those athletes cleared 1.95 metres, leaving Mahuchikh alone at the winning height.
High jumpers run toward a crossbar and use a curved approach before taking off and passing over it back-first. The bar is raised progressively, and an athlete must clear a height without dislodging it. Unlike a long jump result, the measurement is vertical rather than horizontal.
Mahuchikh’s result continued her status as one of Europe’s leading high jumpers. The 1.97-metre mark was higher than the shared silver-medal height, although it was not a two-metre clearance.
