The group that sings “You and I are gonna live forever” is Oasis.
The lyric comes from “Live Forever,” written by Noel Gallagher and performed by the English rock band Oasis. The song was released as a single on August 8, 1994, and became the band’s first UK top-ten single. It was later included on Oasis’s debut album, Definitely Maybe.
Gallagher began developing the song in 1991, while working a less demanding job after a workplace accident. Its bright, forward-looking message stood apart from the darker outlook associated with much early-1990s grunge. Gallagher cited the Rolling Stones’ “Shine a Light” as an inspiration for part of the song’s melodic shape.
The line is sometimes misremembered as “we’re gonna live forever,” but the recorded lyric is “You and I are gonna live forever.” Liam Gallagher sings the famous lead vocal, while Noel wrote the song and also performed parts of it in live versions.
