Serena Williams and Venus Williams won Wimbledon in 2016, taking the ladies’ doubles title together. They defeated Tímea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova 6–3, 6–4 in the final on July 9, 2016.
The victory was the sisters’ sixth Wimbledon doubles championship and their 14th Grand Slam doubles title. They had previously won every Grand Slam doubles final they had contested, making their partnership one of the most successful in tennis history.
The question can cause confusion because Serena also won the 2016 Wimbledon singles title, defeating Angelique Kerber 7–5, 6–3. Venus reached the singles semifinals, where Kerber defeated her. Thus, the shared Williams-family achievement was the doubles championship, while Serena’s individual victory was in singles.
Wimbledon is the common name for The Championships, staged at the All England Club in London. It is one of tennis’s four Grand Slam tournaments, alongside the Australian Open, French Open and US Open, and is played on grass.
