Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina won the Wimbledon ladies’ doubles title in 2017.
The Russian pair defeated the British team of Hsieh Su-wei and Monica Niculescu in the final, winning 6–0, 6–0. The unusually one-sided score made the match one of the quickest Grand Slam doubles finals in modern Wimbledon history.
The victory was especially significant because it was Makarova and Vesnina’s second Wimbledon doubles championship, following their 2016 triumph. They had also won the 2014 US Open and the women’s doubles gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
A common mix-up is to treat Wimbledon as a singles achievement. Makarova and Vesnina were both accomplished singles players, but this particular 2017 Grand Slam title was won in women’s doubles.
