The global McDonald's tagline introduced in 2003 was “I'm Lovin' It.”
The campaign marked a major effort to give McDonald's a consistent worldwide verbal identity. Its informal first-person wording was designed to sound contemporary and personal, allowing customers to connect the brand with enjoyment rather than with a formal corporate message.
The campaign is often associated with the song “I'm Lovin' It,” performed by Justin Timberlake, but the tagline and the recording are not exactly the same thing. McDonald's used the phrase as a marketing platform across advertising, packaging, and other communications, while Timberlake's recording helped give the launch cultural visibility.
The tagline also replaced the importance of earlier McDonald's slogans such as “You Deserve a Break Today.” It became one of the company's longest-running global brand lines. Because the words are short and conversational, they are sometimes quoted with different punctuation or capitalization, but the canonical wording includes the contraction and the apostrophe in “Lovin' It.”
