What genus contains the anacondas?

The story behind the answer

The genus that contains the anacondas is Eunectes.

Eunectes is a South American genus of large boas adapted to life in and around water. Its members include the green anaconda, the yellow anaconda, the dark-spotted anaconda, and the Bolivian anaconda. The genus name is derived from Greek and is associated with good swimming.

Anacondas are constrictors, not venomous snakes. They seize prey with their teeth, pull it underwater or wrap around it, and use muscular constriction before swallowing it whole. Their eyes and nostrils sit high on the head, an arrangement that helps them remain partly submerged while watching and breathing.

The green anaconda is the best-known species and is generally regarded as the heaviest living snake. Anacondas are often incorrectly grouped with pythons, but anacondas are New World boas, while true pythons belong to a different family found mainly in the Old World.
