Indiana Jones teaches at fictional Marshall College in Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The film introduces Jones as an archaeology professor who divides his time between classroom teaching and dangerous fieldwork. Marshall College is his academic base, and the opening scenes show him returning there before government agents recruit him to find the Ark of the Covenant.
Marshall College is fictional, but the film presents it as a recognizable American university environment. Indiana’s academic career contrasts with his adventuring life: he lectures on archaeology while also deciphering clues, escaping traps, and confronting rivals. The campus scenes establish him as a scholar before the main international chase begins.
The college name can be confused with the fictional Barnett College, which appears in later Indiana Jones stories and is more closely associated with the character in subsequent adventures. Raiders of the Lost Ark was released in 1981 and was the first film in the Indiana Jones series, although its title was later changed in some markets to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
