Reddit rolled out multireddits in 2013 to show top stories from a collection of subreddits.
A multireddit combined several communities into one custom feed, letting users follow a theme without opening each subreddit separately. It was presented as a major change to Reddit’s front page and initially gave users a more personalized way to browse.
The feature was especially useful because Reddit’s communities are divided by topic: someone could group news, technology, or sports subreddits into a single view. The combined feed still drew on Reddit’s voting and sorting systems, so popular posts from the selected communities rose to the top.
Multireddit is easy to confuse with Reddit’s front page, a single subreddit, or later custom-feed terminology. It was not a chat, awards, or live-video feature. Reddit later changed parts of its interface, but the underlying idea—combining communities into one feed—remained associated with multireddits.
