What eye color is characteristic of the Russian Blue cat breed?

The story behind the answer

Vivid green eyes are characteristic of the Russian Blue cat breed.

The Russian Blue is known for a short, dense blue-gray coat with silver-tipped guard hairs. In adults, the coat’s silver sheen contrasts with the breed’s vivid green eyes, creating its signature appearance. Kittens may have yellowish or changing eye color before adulthood, so young cats do not always display the finished look immediately.

“Blue” in cat-breed terminology means a dilute gray color, not a bright blue coat. The Russian Blue’s coat is usually short and plush, with a texture that stands away slightly from the body.

The breed’s early history is associated with the port of Arkhangelsk in northern Russia, although its documented development as a pedigree breed took place largely in Britain and Scandinavia. It is separate from other blue-gray breeds such as the Chartreux and Korat.
