What episode features a psychic who accurately predicts deaths? “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose” does. The fourth episode of The X-Files’ third season follows FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigate murders targeting psychics and fortune-tellers.

Peter Boyle plays Clyde Bruckman, an insurance salesman whose unusual ability is not general prophecy: he can perceive the details of how people will die. His visions help the agents locate victims and connect the murders to a killer who also possesses psychic insight. The episode uses this supernatural premise to explore fate, free will, and whether knowing the future changes human choices.

Written by Darin Morgan and directed by David Nutter, the episode first aired on October 13, 1995. It is often regarded as one of the series’ finest standalone “Monster-of-the-Week” stories. A frequently remembered detail is Bruckman’s prediction that Scully will not die, a line that later gained significance through the sixth-season episode “Tithonus.”
