The turbocharged three-cylinder in the Toyota GR Corolla uses the G16E-GTS engine code.
The G16E-GTS is a 1.6-liter inline-three developed by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division. It first appeared in the GR Yaris, where Toyota paired a compact engine with turbocharging, direct and port fuel injection, and performance-focused cooling and lubrication systems.
Toyota introduced the GR Corolla on March 31, 2022, using the same engine family. In the Corolla, the engine is paired with GR-Four all-wheel drive and produces market-dependent outputs around 300 horsepower in North America. The GR Corolla also uses three exhaust outlets to help reduce back pressure.
The alternatives are engines associated with other Toyota applications. The 3S-GTE is an older turbocharged four-cylinder, the 2JZ-GTE is a famous twin-turbo inline-six, and the 1LR-GUE is a naturally aspirated V10 used in the Lexus LFA. None is the GR Corolla’s engine code.
