What dual date appears on the 2026 semiquincentennial coin designs?
Answer
1776~2026
Answer
1776~2026
The 2026 semiquincentennial coin designs use the dual date 1776~2026.
The two dates identify the year of the Declaration of Independence and the 250th-anniversary year. The tilde between them visually links the founding date with the anniversary date, rather than presenting the inscription as an ordinary single-year coin date.
The United States Mint planned anniversary-related designs across several circulating denominations, including a cent, nickel, dime, half dollar, dollar, and five quarters. The cent and nickel retain much of their regular design treatment while incorporating the dual date or related anniversary marks.
The inscription can be confused with 1776–1976, the dual date used on many Bicentennial coins. Those coins commemorated the 200th anniversary. The 2026 designs instead connect 1776 with 2026, the year of the Semiquincentennial.
