Answer
Different designs on obverse and reverse
The flag of Paraguay is distinguished by having different designs on its obverse and reverse. The front displays Paraguay’s national coat of arms, while the back carries the seal of the treasury, featuring a lion, a staff, and the motto “Paz y Justicia” (“Peace and Justice”).
Both sides retain the same horizontal red, white, and blue triband. The flag’s basic design was adopted in 1842, and its colors are commonly associated with independence and liberty, partly reflecting the influence of the French Tricolour.
The two-sided emblem tradition dates to Paraguay’s early republican period and survived later revisions. A 2013 change brought the artwork closer to historically intended designs. Paraguay is commonly described as the only national flag with a unique official design on each side, although some other flags have reverses that differ in details or orientation.
