The top horizontal band on Venezuela’s national flag is yellow.
Venezuela’s flag is arranged in three horizontal bands: yellow at the top, blue in the middle, and red at the bottom. The basic color order comes from the tricolor designed by Francisco de Miranda for his 1806 expedition and later adopted by Venezuela in 1811.
On the modern flag, the blue band carries an arc of eight white five-pointed stars. The state version may also display Venezuela’s coat of arms in the upper hoist-side corner of the yellow band. These additions do not change the underlying three-color order.
The Venezuelan flag is often confused with the flags of Colombia and Ecuador because all three descend from Miranda’s tricolor tradition. Colombia’s flag also places yellow above blue and red, but its bands have different proportions, while Ecuador’s commonly includes a coat of arms.
