The Pearl Jam hit single “I Got Id/Long Road” is from the Nineties.
The two songs were released together in 1995 as the Merkin Ball EP, a collaboration between Pearl Jam and Neil Young. “I Got Id” served as the A-side, while “Long Road” appeared as the B-side; the release is also often described as a two-song single.
Both tracks were recorded during the 1995 sessions connected with Neil Young’s album Mirror Ball. Legal arrangements between Epic Records and Reprise Records kept Pearl Jam’s name and these songs off the main Mirror Ball album, so they were issued separately.
Eddie Vedder wrote both songs. Neil Young contributed guitar to “I Got Id” and pump organ to “Long Road.” “I Got Id” later appeared on Pearl Jam’s 2004 greatest-hits collection, rearviewmirror, helping preserve the release’s place in the band’s Nineties catalog.
