The hit single “Fingertips II” by Little Stevie Wonder is from the 1960s. It was released in 1963, when Wonder was still being promoted under his youthful stage name, Little Stevie Wonder.
“Fingertips” began as an instrumental composition written by Clarence Paul and Henry Cosby. Wonder recorded a celebrated live version at Chicago's Regal Theater, and the performance was too long for one side of a standard 45-rpm single. Motown therefore divided it into “Fingertips—Part 1” and “Fingertips—Part 2,” with Part 2 containing the encore.
Part 2 became the breakout hit, reaching number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the R&B chart. The recording helped make the young performer a national star and is often cited as one of the first live recordings to top the pop chart. It is sometimes listed simply as “Fingertips,” but “Fingertips II” refers to the same 1963 Part 2 release.
