What date did Queen Victoria die?

Queen Victoria died on 22 January 1901.

She died at Osborne House, her royal residence on the Isle of Wight, at the age of 81. Her death brought to an end a reign of 63 years and 216 days, one of the longest in British history at the time. She had become queen in 1837 after the death of her uncle, William IV.

Victoria’s final illness was linked to declining health in her later years. She was surrounded by members of her family, including her eldest son, Albert Edward, who succeeded her as King Edward VII. Her grandson Wilhelm II, German Emperor, was also present.

The date is sometimes confused with other important royal dates. Victoria’s accession was 20 June 1837, her coronation was 28 June 1838, and her successor became king immediately after her death. Victoria’s state funeral took place later, on 2 February 1901, and she was buried at the Royal Mausoleum at Frogmore on 4 February.
