What cricket format is used in the Indian Premier League?
Answer
Twenty20
Answer
Twenty20
The Indian Premier League uses the Twenty20 format, commonly called T20 cricket.
In a Twenty20 match, each side normally faces a maximum of 20 overs, with six legal deliveries in each over. That gives the game a much shorter structure than One Day cricket, which generally allows 50 overs per side, and Test cricket, which can last up to five days. The IPL combines this fast format with city-based franchises, player auctions and a league-and-playoff season.
The Hundred is another short-form cricket competition, but it is not the format used by the IPL. The Hundred uses 100 deliveries per innings and a different over structure. The IPL’s T20 identity was central to its creation in 2007 and helped make the competition attractive to broadcasters, spectators and international players.
