What country of origin is listed for Parks and Recreation?

The country of origin listed for Parks and Recreation is the United States. The series is an American television sitcom created for NBC and set around local government in the fictional Indiana town of Pawnee.

Its American identity appears both in its production history and its setting. Greg Daniels and Michael Schur developed the show, while Amy Poehler stars as Leslie Knope, an optimistic public servant working in Pawnee’s Parks and Recreation Department. The program’s stories satirize American municipal politics, elections, bureaucracy, and civic life.

A common mix-up is to identify Indiana as the country of origin. Indiana is the fictional U.S. state where the story takes place, not a country. The show itself was produced as an American network series, aired on NBC from 2009 to 2015, and later received a 2020 reunion special. Its fictional setting gives the comedy a local flavor, but its national origin is clearly the United States.
