What country do the Cranberries call home?

The story behind the answer

The Cranberries call Ireland home. The alternative-rock band formed in Limerick, Ireland, in 1989 and became one of the country’s best-known musical exports.

The original group was called The Cranberry Saw Us. Vocalist Dolores O’Riordan joined in 1990, replacing founding singer Niall Quinn, and her distinctive voice helped define the band’s sound. The Cranberries blended alternative rock with indie rock, jangle pop, dream pop, folk influences and post-punk.

Their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?, established them internationally, while songs such as “Linger,” “Dreams” and “Zombie” brought Irish music to a huge global audience. The band is sometimes loosely labeled grunge because of its 1990s era and rock sound, but its music is more accurately described as alternative rock. The group released its final album, In the End, in 2019.
