The 2021 merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA created Stellantis.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, or FCA, was the multinational group behind brands such as Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram. Groupe PSA owned Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel. Their cross-border merger was completed on January 16, 2021, creating Stellantis, one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers.
The transaction was structured as a 50–50 combination, with shares listed in several markets. Stellantis headquartered its corporate operations in Amsterdam and continued selling vehicles under its many separate brand names rather than replacing them with a single Stellantis badge.
The company is often confused with DaimlerChrysler, the earlier 1998 combination of Daimler-Benz and Chrysler. It is also not the same as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which was the predecessor created after Fiat increased its ownership of Chrysler. Stellantis later expanded its portfolio through additional investments and acquisitions.
