The company resulting from the 2015 merger of Lafarge and Holcim was LafargeHolcim.
The French company Lafarge and Swiss company Holcim agreed to combine in 2014, and the merger was completed in July 2015. Their businesses included cement, aggregates, and ready-mix concrete, making the combination one of the largest transactions in the global building-materials industry.
Because the companies were major competitors in many markets, regulators required asset sales before approval. The merger was structured as an equal combination, although Holcim shareholders ultimately held a slightly larger portion of the new group.
The company changed its name to Holcim Group in 2021. That later rebranding can cause confusion in questions about the original merger: LafargeHolcim is the name created by the 2015 transaction, while Holcim is the company’s current corporate name.
