What company owns the British luxury car brand Bentley?

The Volkswagen Group owns the British luxury car brand Bentley. Volkswagen acquired Bentley, along with the vehicle business then known as Rolls-Royce Motors, from Vickers in 1998.

The deal created an unusual ownership split. Volkswagen obtained Bentley, the Crewe factory, vehicle designs, and production assets, but it did not acquire the rights to the Rolls-Royce name and logo. BMW obtained those rights and eventually established the modern Rolls-Royce Motor Cars company.

Bentley therefore remained with Volkswagen after the two luxury marques separated. From 2003 onward, Volkswagen was the sole provider of cars carrying the Bentley marque. Volkswagen invested heavily in Bentley’s Crewe facilities and expanded the range with models such as the Continental GT and Bentayga.

BMW is the most common mix-up because it owns Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. Bentley is part of Volkswagen Group’s luxury portfolio and has been managed under its Audi brand arm since 2022, but the ultimate owner remains Volkswagen Group.
