What company owns the brand 'Tic Tac'?

The story behind the answer

The company that owns the Tic Tac brand is Ferrero, the Italian confectionery group. Ferrero first introduced the small hard mints in 1969.

The product originally launched under the name “Refreshing Mints.” In 1970, Ferrero renamed it Tic Tac after the distinctive clicking sound made when the transparent plastic container’s lid is opened and closed. That package became almost as recognisable as the candy itself.

Tic Tacs are sold in many flavours, including mint and orange, and are available in more than 100 countries. Ferrero also owns brands such as Nutella, Kinder, Ferrero Rocher and Mon Chéri, but Tic Tac is a mint brand rather than a chocolate product.

One common misconception comes from the packaging’s nutrition label. In the United States, a single mint may be listed as containing zero grams of sugar because it weighs less than the threshold at which sugar must be rounded up. Tic Tacs are nevertheless primarily made from sugar, so “zero grams” does not mean the mints are sugar-free.
