Jack Arnold worked for NORCOM, a large military defense company, early in The Wonder Years.
Jack is introduced as a middle-management employee whose job involves product distribution at NORCOM. The position gives the Arnold family financial stability, but Jack dislikes corporate bureaucracy and resents having supervisors. His frustration with the company becomes an important part of his characterization: he represents a practical, hardworking generation increasingly uncomfortable with the rapid cultural changes of the late 1960s.
NORCOM is fictional, but the show presents it as a major defense contractor, fitting the series’ implied suburban setting and Cold War-era background. Jack’s work also connects to his identity as a former Marine and Korean War veteran. In the later story, he finally leaves NORCOM and starts a furniture business, building and selling handcrafted pieces.
Micro Electronics is a particularly plausible distractor because Norma Arnold later works there after finishing college. Jack, however, is associated with NORCOM; Initech and Globex belong to other fictional workplace settings and are not his employers.
