Elon Musk co-founded Neuralink in 2016 to develop brain–computer interfaces.
Neuralink is a neurotechnology company focused on implantable systems that can record and potentially stimulate neural activity. Its stated long-term aims include helping people interact with computers through neural signals and investigating treatments for neurological conditions.
The company publicly demonstrated an implantable device and a surgical robot in 2020. It later showed a primate using a computer interface to play a simple game, although demonstrations do not by themselves establish broad medical effectiveness.
Neuralink received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin its first human clinical trial in 2023. The technology remains experimental, and its safety, usefulness, and long-term clinical impact require formal testing.
