Ready at Dawn developed the 2015 third-person action-adventure video game The Order: 1886. The California-based studio created the game as a PlayStation 4 exclusive, while Sony Computer Entertainment published it.
The game was announced at Sony’s E3 2013 press conference as a new intellectual property. Its story imagines an alternate-history London in 1886, where an ancient order of knights protects humanity from hybrid creatures known as half-breeds. The player controls Sir Galahad through a linear, cinematic campaign built around cover-based shooting, stealth, melee attacks, and quick-time events.
Ready at Dawn began working on the project around 2010 and used its proprietary RAD Engine 4.0. The game was released on February 20, 2015. Reviewers often praised its visuals, lighting, atmosphere, and production design, while criticizing its short length, limited interactivity, and straightforward gameplay.
The studio later moved into virtual-reality development, producing titles such as Lone Echo. Oculus Studios acquired Ready at Dawn in 2020, and Reality Labs closed the studio in 2024.
