Red and yellow became especially associated with McDonald’s restaurant signs and packaging.
The bright palette supported the company’s highly visible roadside identity. Yellow connected naturally with the Golden Arches, while red provided strong contrast and helped signs, boxes, wrappers, and advertising stand out.
McDonald’s did not use the colors in exactly the same way in every era or country. Restaurant interiors, local campaigns, and later sustainability-focused designs sometimes introduced additional colors. Even so, red and yellow remained the most recognizable classic combination associated with the brand.
This palette should not be confused with the colors of every McDonald’s logo variation. The arches have appeared in different treatments, including versions with a red field or background, but the familiar brand pairing is red and yellow.
