What color is the star on the obverse side of the flag of Paraguay?

The story behind the answer

The star on the obverse side of Paraguay’s flag is yellow. It appears at the center of the national coat of arms, which is displayed on the flag’s front, or obverse, side.

The yellow five-pointed star is surrounded by a green wreath made from palm and olive branches. A circular band carries the words “República del Paraguay.” The star is part of the national coat of arms rather than a separate emblem placed independently on the flag.

Paraguay’s flag is unusual because its two sides are different. The obverse carries the national coat of arms, while the reverse shows the seal of the treasury: a lion beneath a red Phrygian cap and the motto “Paz y Justicia,” meaning “Peace and Justice.” This makes Paraguay the only national flag with a unique design on each side.

The tricolor of red, white, and blue was first adopted in 1842 and is often associated with independence and liberty. In 2013, Paraguay revised the emblem designs to bring them closer to historical forms.
