The disk in the center of Niger’s national flag is orange.
Niger’s flag is a horizontal tricolor of orange, white, and green, with an orange disk placed in the middle of the white band. The disk is commonly understood to represent the sun, though published interpretations of the flag’s symbolism are not always presented as an explicit official constitutional explanation.
The flag was designed in 1958 and adopted on 23 November 1959, while Niger was still approaching independence from French West Africa. It remained in use when Niger became independent in 1960 and has continued as the country’s national flag. The upper orange band is often associated with the Sahara, the white band with the Sahel, and the green band with the more fertile south.
The disk is easy to confuse with the blue wheel on India’s flag, especially because both countries use orange, white, and green in their national colors. Niger’s central symbol is a plain orange circle, not a wheel or star. Another curiosity is the flag’s traditionally stated 6:7 proportion, although official usage has not always applied that ratio consistently.
