What color is Herbie the Love Bug, the famous Disney Beetle character, painted?

The story behind the answer

Herbie the Love Bug is painted pearl white, with red, white, and blue racing stripes running lengthwise over his body.

Herbie is a fictional 1963 Volkswagen Beetle created for Disney’s The Love Bug, released in 1968. His pearl-white finish was based on Volkswagen’s factory color L87 Pearl White. The car was given a personality, allowing it to drive itself, react emotionally, and compete as an unlikely racing champion against much more powerful machines.

People sometimes remember Herbie as simply “white,” which is acceptable for the quiz, but the more precise description is pearl white. The stripes do not make him a blue, red, or yellow car: they are decorative racing bands laid over the white body. Different Beetles and replicas used in the films could vary in details, but Herbie’s recognizable appearance consistently centers on the pale body, tricolor stripes, and racing number 53.

Herbie first appeared in The Love Bug and returned in several Disney films, television productions, and the 2005 movie Herbie: Fully Loaded.
