What college did Georgia O'Keeffe attend in New York before becoming an artist?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe attended Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York.

She studied there in 1907 and 1908 while preparing for a career in art education. Teachers College was associated with Columbia University and was known for professional training, including preparation for teaching. O'Keeffe's education there followed her earlier study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Her plans changed after she became dissatisfied with academic art conventions and later explored a more experimental approach. Even so, her training helped establish the technical foundation for her career, and she worked as an art teacher during parts of her early professional life.

Teachers College is sometimes confused with Columbia College, Barnard College, or the nearby Art Students League. Those institutions have distinct histories and are not the school named in accounts of O'Keeffe's New York education.
