What city is the setting of 30 Rock?

The story behind the answer

The setting of 30 Rock is New York City. The series follows the staff of a fictional NBC sketch-comedy program working at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the Manhattan landmark that gives the show its title.

The workplace is an invented version of NBC’s real New York operations, with storylines revolving around head writer Liz Lemon, network executive Jack Donaghy, performers Tracy Jordan and Jenna Maroney, and NBC page Kenneth Parcell. The premise draws heavily on Tina Fey’s experience as head writer of Saturday Night Live.

The show’s fictional program was initially called The Girlie Show and was later renamed TGS with Tracy Jordan. Although the story is set around 30 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan, most interior scenes were filmed at Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, Queens. Two live episodes used Studio 8H at the real 30 Rock complex.
