What CBS television series presented short historical vignettes for the 1976 Bicentennial?

The story behind the answer

The Bicentennial Minute was the CBS television series of short historical vignettes created for the 1976 Bicentennial.

The segments aired from 1974 through the end of 1976, giving viewers brief historical features during the years leading up to the anniversary. Their purpose was to connect everyday television viewing with the history being commemorated nationwide.

The series was one part of an unusually large television response to the bicentennial. Networks also broadcast long-form entertainment and documentary programs, including coverage hosted by Walter Cronkite, John Chancellor, Paul Anka, and Ed McMahon.

The Bicentennial Minute should not be confused with America Rock, the history-themed Schoolhouse Rock! sub-series that also appeared during the bicentennial period. America Rock used animated educational songs, while the Bicentennial Minute consisted of short broadcast vignettes on CBS.
