Independence Hall, then called the Pennsylvania State House, hosted the Continental Congress when it adopted the Declaration.
The building stands in Philadelphia and served as the meeting place of the Second Continental Congress during the American Revolution. The delegates debated independence there and approved the Declaration on July 4, 1776. The building later became known as Independence Hall because of its association with that event.
Independence Hall is also closely connected with the United States Constitution. The Constitutional Convention met there in 1787, which can lead visitors and quiz players to associate the building only with the Constitution. Its significance actually spans both the Declaration and the later framework of government.
The site is part of Independence National Historical Park, which also includes the Liberty Bell Center and other historic locations in Philadelphia. It is one of the most recognizable places associated with the American founding and a natural landmark for America250 commemoration.
