What building hosted the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776?

The story behind the answer

Independence Hall hosted the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776.

The building was originally called the Pennsylvania State House. The Second Continental Congress met there when it adopted the Declaration on July 4, 1776. The building received its better-known name later, reflecting its association with American independence.

Independence Hall also hosted the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Delegates debated and signed the United States Constitution there, making the building significant for both the Declaration and the later framework of the federal government.

The structure is part of Independence National Historical Park and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. It is sometimes confused with Congress Hall, another nearby Philadelphia building where the Confederation Congress met after the Revolutionary War and where the first U.S. Congress met from 1790 to 1800.
