What breed of dog is Eddie?

Eddie is a Jack Russell Terrier. In Frasier, the dog belongs to Martin Crane and becomes one of the show's most memorable characters because of his intense, apparently judgmental stare—especially when he looks at Frasier.

Eddie was portrayed primarily by Moose, a highly trained Jack Russell Terrier. Later, Moose's son Enzo played Eddie, with the two dogs sharing the role during the series' later years. Enzo also appeared in the film My Dog Skip, while Moose played the older version of Skip.

The character is technically Martin's dog, not Frasier's, which is central to the family comedy. Martin treats Eddie as a loyal companion, while Frasier resents the dog's presence in his stylish apartment. Eddie's deadpan reactions became a recurring counterpoint to Frasier's elaborate speeches and self-importance.

A common confusion is to identify Eddie by the breed of another small television dog, or to treat “Eddie” as the actor's name. Eddie is the fictional character; Moose and Enzo were the real canine performers who played him.
