What Bob Seger song is in the movie "Risky Business"?

The story behind the answer

The Bob Seger song featured in Risky Business is “Old Time Rock and Roll.” It plays during the film’s famous scene in which Tom Cruise’s character, Joel Goodsen, dances around the house while his parents are away.

Seger recorded the song for his 1978 album Stranger in Town, and it was released as a single in 1979. George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones III wrote the original song, while Seger substantially rewrote its verses without taking formal songwriting credit. The recording was made with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and members of Seger’s Silver Bullet Band.

Risky Business, released in 1983, gave the track a second life. The movie scene became one of the most recognizable uses of a rock song in film, and the song was re-released after the film’s success. It is sometimes casually called a song written entirely by Seger, but the songwriting history is more complicated.
