What birth name does the Assassin's Creed III protagonist use?

The story behind the answer

Ratonhnhaké:ton is the birth name of Assassin's Creed III's protagonist.

The character is commonly called Connor, a name given to him by Achilles Davenport to help him operate in colonial society. His Kanien'kehá:ka birth name is Ratonhnhaké:ton, and the game presents both names as parts of his identity.

Ratonhnhaké:ton grows up in the Mohawk village of Kanatahséton before becoming involved in the Assassin-Templar conflict. The story takes place during the American Revolution and includes historical figures such as George Washington, Samuel Adams, and Benjamin Franklin.

He is the son of Haytham Kenway, the playable protagonist of the opening sequence and a Templar. That family relationship is a major source of conflict, but Ratonhnhaké:ton is the character players control for most of the main campaign. The spelling includes a colon and diacritics in the commonly used form.
