What band's lead singer designed their famous logo?
Answer
Queen
Answer
Queen
Queen's lead singer, Freddie Mercury, designed the band's famous logo, known as the Queen crest.
Mercury created the crest shortly before Queen's debut album was released in 1973. His training in graphic design at Ealing Art College helped him produce a carefully structured emblem rather than a simple wordmark. The design combines the zodiac signs of all four members: two lions for John Deacon and Roger Taylor, a crab for Brian May, and two fairies representing Mercury's Virgo sign.
A large letter Q and a crown sit at the center, while a phoenix rises above the group of symbols. The crest's heraldic appearance also echoes the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom, fitting the band's name and grand theatrical style.
A common mix-up is crediting the logo to the whole band or to an outside designer. Mercury designed it himself, although Queen's visual identity later appeared in many variations across album covers, merchandise, and stage productions.
