Rush was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994. The Toronto-formed band was recognized during the Juno Awards period, honoring its major contribution to Canadian rock music.
Rush began in 1968 with guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer John Rutsey; bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee joined soon afterward. Drummer Neil Peart replaced Rutsey in 1974, creating the classic trio whose intricate arrangements, extended songs, and technical musicianship defined the band’s best-known era.
The induction came after landmark albums such as 2112, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures. Rush later received further major recognition: its members became Officers of the Order of Canada in 1996, and the band entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. The Canadian Music Hall of Fame honor therefore predates Rush’s American rock-hall induction by 19 years.
