What backing band played on "My Aim Is True"?

The story behind the answer

Clover was the backing band that played on Elvis Costello's debut album, My Aim Is True.

Clover was an American country-rock group formed in California and led by singer and guitarist Alex Call. The band moved to Britain in the 1970s, where its members became part of the vibrant pub-rock scene. Their musical skill and roots-oriented style made them a natural fit for Costello's first recordings, produced by Nick Lowe.

My Aim Is True was released in 1977 and established Costello as a major new songwriter, with songs such as “Alison,” “Watching the Detectives” and “Less Than Zero.” Although listeners often associate Costello with his later permanent band, the Attractions, the original album was recorded with Clover. Costello's subsequent recordings with the Attractions helped create his better-known early sound, which is why the two bands are sometimes confused. Clover members later worked with other prominent musicians, including Huey Lewis.
