What anniversary does America250 commemorate in 2026?

America250 commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

The anniversary is tied specifically to the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The observance is therefore centered on Independence Day, although events and educational programs extend across multiple years.

The term “semiquincentennial” means a 250th anniversary. Other names sometimes appear, including sestercentennial and quarter millennium, but America250 is the prominent public branding for the national celebration.

The previous major anniversary was the United States Bicentennial in 1976, which marked 200 years. The next centennial milestone after 2026 will be the Tricentennial in 2076, marking 300 years.
