What animal’s head appears in the RAM Trucks emblem?

The story behind the answer

A ram’s head appears in the RAM Trucks emblem.

The symbol was inherited from Dodge vehicles, where the ram motif had been used since the 1930s. The animal was chosen to suggest strength, toughness, and determination—qualities that the manufacturer wanted associated with its trucks.

RAM became a separate truck-focused brand in 2010, when Chrysler reorganized its vehicle businesses. Its modern emblem presents a highly stylized ram’s head, usually in a metallic or monochrome finish, rather than showing the full animal.

The emblem is sometimes mistaken for a goat or a mountain sheep because the horns dominate the design. In automotive branding, however, the intended animal is specifically a ram, a male sheep known for its large curved horns.
