What animal does Alice follow into the rabbit hole?
Answer
White Rabbit
Answer
White Rabbit
Alice follows the White Rabbit into the rabbit hole in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
At the beginning of the story, Alice is sitting beside her sister when she notices a White Rabbit wearing a waistcoat and carrying a pocket watch. His anxious cry that he is late makes her curious, and she runs after him. When the Rabbit disappears down a rabbit hole, Alice follows and begins a long, extraordinary fall into Wonderland.
The White Rabbit is more than a guide into the fantasy world. He reappears throughout the book as a nervous servant and herald for the King and Queen of Hearts. His repeated concern about time gives the story its opening sense of urgency and helps distinguish him from Wonderland’s other famous figures.
The Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter, and Cheshire Cat all appear later, but none leads Alice into the hole. The phrase “down the rabbit hole” later became an English idiom for entering a strange, complicated subject or losing oneself in an absorbing investigation.
